We are very proud to announce that Ashima Singh, Co- founder and Partner at Legal Associates is the first INDIAN BORN, New Zealand LAWYER to become Notary Public. Ashima was admitted to Notaries Society of New Zealand in 2022. She had completed her Bachelor of Law from University of Auckland, New Zealand in 2011 and admitted to High Court of New Zealand and since then she is working as Lawyer.

This marvellous achievement adds further to Ashima’s already extensive list of accomplishments. The new service is now fully operational from our office premises and her success proudly belongs to all communities, migrants and non-migrants alike.

Ashima has been awarded as Inspiring Ethnic Business Women 2022 at Women4Women Inaugural Ethnic Women Awards. She received an award for Exceptional Services to Communities 2019 at Indian Newslink Community Awards. She is also awarded as Businesswomen of the Year 2016 at Indian Business Awards.

Ashima’s inspiration

As a young mother and migrant woman, Ashima’s passion to empower people from the migrant communities and to provide legal representation for all communities inspired her to pursue Notary services.

Deeply committed to social justice, Ashima conceived the idea of providing a free legal clinic at her office premises every Saturday during school term from 10:00am to 12:00 pm. The purpose of this was to ensure that Legal Associates was at the forefront of educating the community as to their legal rights, the provision of preliminary legal advice free of cost to prospective clients as well as those people who cannot afford legal representation. Legal Associates Limited continues to prominently advocate for community empowerment.

What is Notary Service:

A Notary Service is usually sought when the validity of a document needs to be verified for overseas use. The Archbishop of Canterbury, England, grants a special officer called a Notary Public to be entrusted with this duty. The Notary Public will verify the identity of the signatory requesting the service and then attest or certify the respective documents with their official seal. In some cases, Notary will assist in the preparation and drafting of the documents to be notarised.

How can Ashima assist you

As Notary Public, Ashima can sign and seal your documents that you are asked to provide for overseas use such as to government agencies, courts, and for commercial contracts.

The process is simple: You visit Legal Associates office with your identification proof, such as original passport and the document that you need to send overseas. Ashima will then check the document with you for completion. She will then verify your identity and certify your overseas document with her official seal.

Some documents that require to be notarised for oversea use are:

· Powers of Attorney

· Affidavits and Declarations

· Property Documents

· Commercial Documents

· Identification Documents

· Academic Records

· Translation Documents

Process of getting notarised:

(1) Ensure your document is properly drafted and complete for the required purpose. Here at Legal Associates, we can assist you with drafting and preparing your documents.

(2) For the verification of your identity ensure you bring necessary identification, preferably your Passport.

(3) The Notary Public will sign and seal the document.
